Underground Project Manager (FIFO / Hard Rock) – Southern Africa

Job Description:
A leading mining contractor is seeking an experienced Underground Project Manager to oversee the successful delivery of mining projects from planning through to completion. The role will provide senior leadership across project execution, ensuring that projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget and to the required quality standards. The successful candidate will manage multidisciplinary teams, contractors and suppliers while maintaining accountability for project performance. This position will oversee project planning, commercial performance, contract administration, procurement, risk management and stakeholder engagement. The role will also be responsible for project controls, change management, commissioning and operational handovers. Previous experience within an underground hard-rock mining environment is essential.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, execution and completion of underground mining projects in line with approved scope, schedule, budget and quality requirements.
- Develop and maintain project execution plans, budgets, schedules, risk registers and project controls.
- Provide visible leadership on health, safety, environment, training and quality across all project activities.
- Manage multidisciplinary project teams, contractors and suppliers to achieve project objectives.
- Maintain accountability for project financial performance, including forecasting, cost control, expenditure and contractor claims.
- Manage contracts, procurement, variations, claims and contractor performance in accordance with project requirements.
- Identify and mitigate project risks, issues and opportunities while implementing recovery strategies where required.
- Lead commissioning, project close-out, operational handover and stakeholder engagement activities.
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- Minimum 7 years' project management or project engineering experience within an underground hard-rock mining environment.
- Demonstrated track record of delivering mining projects safely, on schedule, within budget and to required quality standards.
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary project teams in a mining environment.
- Strong experience in contract administration, procurement, commercial management, risk management and change control.
- Experience with ERP systems and project/business management software.
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Engineering, Project Management or a related discipline is advantageous.
- Mine Manager's Certificate, PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent project management qualification is advantageous.
- Previous mining contractor, African/expatriate mining experience and French language skills will be advantageous.
