Job Description:


Our client, a leading mining company on the African continent, is currently looking for a Senior Mine Geologist that will oversee the development and implementation of mine geology policies and procedures and will be responsible for leading the mine geology team to ensure the integration of geological models into mining operations to optimize resource extraction efficiently and sustainably. The incumbent will design infill drilling and grade control systems, develop block models for reserve and resource calculation, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards. Through coaching, mentoring, and strategic leadership, this role aims to enhance team capabilities, promote safety culture, and ensure the geological integrity of the mining operations.


Responsibilities:


  • Be a safety leader, adhering to and sponsoring safety, environmental rules, and procedures.
  • Assist to create a culture that surpasses SHEC standards, enhancing safety behaviours through proactive management and leadership.
  • Share safety lessons and best practices widely within the project team and with all stakeholders.
  • Implement first-class mine geology procedures and standards.
  • Design and manage infill drilling programs and develop mine block models.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the Monthly, Quarterly, and Yearly mine plans.
  • Develop and manage the mine geology budget, maintaining cost control and identifying cost savings opportunities.
  • Plan, approve, and monitor any expenditure under your authority, ensuring all costs remain within budget.
  • Prepare geological reports/presentations, ensuring that all reporting required meets the companies' standards and is completed on time.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements through training and development of staff.


Requirements: Qualification and Experience


  • Honours degree in Geology or Geological Engineering or related tertiary qualification.
  • A minimum of ten years’ experience working in open cast mines, demonstrating a progressive career in mine geology.
  • Prior experience coordinating and supervising a mine geology team during mine construction and ramp-up phases is critical.
  • Strong background in managing infill drilling programs, grade control, and the development of geological models and block models.
  • Track record of working in Africa would and transferring skills would be advantageous.
  • Greenfields experience would be advantageous.
