Job Description:
Our client a mining service provider is seeking a Mining Manager who will manage the execution of the required work within the project schedules and contractual agreements, ensuring technical excellence and effective coordination of the respective staff within the project team. The incumbent will plan, direct, coordinate, or budget, usually through subordinate supervisory personnel, activities concerned with bulk earthworks (including drill and blast) in accordance with the mining plan. Furthermore, the incumbent will participate in the conceptual development of an Opencast Mining project and oversee its organization, scheduling, and implementation.
Responsibilities:
- Establish and build good client relationships.
- Liaise with the Mining manager from the client to ensure we always have adequate space to mine.
- Ensure critical sub-contractors are managed according to the SLA.
- Deliver assurance to management team that mine plans are optimised, low risk and achievable.
- Ensure compliance to Safety and Quality policies, procedures and standards.
- Oversee the entire mining value chain in terms of H&S and quality.
- Complete over inspections of systems and processes to ensure safe working environment.
- Ensure financial management and cost is adhered to as per project budget.
- Ensure surveys are accurately completed and feed into the invoicing process.
- Validate equipment requirements for maximum utilisation.
- Identify business improvement opportunities.
- Assist in contract tenders, validations, assessments for sub-contractors or service providers. Provide input into the development of the business plan.
- Review and authorize payments in line with approved budget and policy.
- Plays a key role in all people management processes, in particular developing of site team technical and operational skills through training, mentoring and assisting teams.
- Responsible for ensuring all administrative requirements are met.
- Manage all associated Geotech risks and processes.
- Plan, organize, execute and monitor the bench preparation, drill & blast as well as load and haul processes.
- Dump planning, optimisation and sequencing for optimal operation.
- Ensure surveying is completed timeously and submitted for financial review.
- Oversee the daily, weekly, monthly and annual planning for the operation.
- Ensure all mining departments are adequately staffed.
- Manage subordinates’ key performance indicators by setting and monitoring performance standards and taking action to correct deviations to achieve objectives.
- Responsible for managing training against development plans and performance contract.
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- At least fifteen years mining supervisory experience in an opencast mining environment of which at least five years must be at Senior Management level.
- Degree/ National Diploma – Mining Engineering.
- Opencast Blasting Certificate.
- Mining Managers Certificate.
- Mine Overseer Certificate.
- Knowledge of Xpac / Surpac will be an advantage.
- Vast knowledge of an Open Cast Mining Operation.
- Vast knowledge of Loading & Hauling procedures, laws, regulations and blast management.
- Knowledge of Xpac / Surpac will be an advantage.
