Job Description:


Our client, a leading iron ore mining operation in West Africa, is seeking an experienced ERT Coordinator to join their HSE team. The successful candidate will report to the HSE Manager and be responsible for directing the design, implementation, and governance of emergency preparedness, disaster response, technical rescue and hazard mitigation programmes across the mining operation. The role will play a key part in ensuring operational emergency readiness, asset protection, regulatory compliance, and adherence to international safety frameworks and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards across the mine and associated operational sites.


Responsibilities:


  • Act as the primary Incident Commander during large-scale emergencies, taking tactical command of emergency responses across the operation.
  • Lead and monitor Emergency Response Teams during complex emergency scenarios, including industrial and mobile equipment fires, HAZMAT incidents, confined space entries, rope and height rescues, vehicle extrications, and marine/water emergencies.
  • Ensure qualified ERT personnel, firefighting apparatus, and specialist rescue equipment are optimally deployed and continuously available across operational sites.
  • Establish, audit, and maintain the Emergency Response and Fire Protection Programme in accordance with applicable NFPA standards, including NFPA 600, NFPA 1600, NFPA 20, NFPA 24, and NFPA 25.
  • Direct inspection, testing, and preventative maintenance programmes for firefighting trucks, rescue equipment, SCBA units, and emergency response facilities.
  • Conduct fire prevention inspections, emergency system audits, and comprehensive emergency response asset inventories while driving corrective action plans.
  • Oversee the training and formal competency verification of ERT personnel in line with relevant NFPA technical rescue and industrial fire brigade requirements.
  • Provide training, mentoring, knowledge transfer, and skills development to junior emergency response personnel.


Qualification and Skill:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Disaster Management, Fire Safety Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline.
  • Internationally recognised Occupational Health and Safety qualification such as NEBOSH or IOSH.
  • Extensive practical knowledge and application of NFPA codes, standards, and compliance requirements relating to industrial fire suppression, flammable and combustible liquids, foam and water storage systems, and emergency services incident management.
  • Valid certifications in core ERT disciplines including Industrial Fire Suppression, Rope & Height Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, Vehicle Extrication, HAZMAT Response, and SCBA operations.
  • Certified Train-the-Trainer accreditation with the ability to design and deliver accredited training.
  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in Fire Prevention and Emergency Response within heavy mining, processing plant, or remote industrial operations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of industrial emergency response scenarios, including processing plant and heavy mobile equipment fires, tailings storage facilities, first aid, marine/water rescue, and snake awareness/handling.
  • Valid driver's licence suitable for emergency response vehicles.
